Design Review Committee

The Committee meets once a month at 4:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers (generally on the third Thursday of each month), and schedules additional meetings as needed. The next meeting takes place January 26, 2012 at 4:30 p.m. (TBA) in the Municipal Hall Council Chambers.

Purpose

The Design Review Committee is a Standing Committee of Council and provides recommendations to Council on policies and regulations affecting buildings, site development and urban design, and on the design merits, and physical and aesthetic impact of proposed development plans and major infrastructure projects.

Duties

Consider and review projects, applications and items referred or delegated by Council, including:

  • Proposed policies and regulations that will impact the function and design of projects including streetscapes;
  • Development applications for commercial, multi-family and public buildings, and for institutional buildings if such buildings are subject to municipal review
  • Major infrastructure projects where design is an important element, including the design of bridges and new roads;
  • Any other proposals referred by Council or staff.

Origin of Work

  • Council referral;
  • Referred by staff in accordance with Council policy directive;
  • Initiated by Committee, with approval of Council.

Term

Voting Members may be appointed for up to a three year term, except that no person shall serve more than six consecutive years.
